It has come to our attention that a letter has gone from Lakewinds to their current members regarding Grass Roots Cooperative and our goals. This letter, unsanctioned and opposed by us, contains misinformation and inaccuracies. We, Grass Roots Cooperative, don't understand why Lakewinds is saying something different from what actually happened, and we want to be very clear to present the facts as they occurred and where things currently stand.
First, Grass Roots Cooperative did not suddenly form to approach Lakewinds about a purchase. The meeting minutes from Lakewinds board meetings will show that a committee was formed out of the Lakewinds board to look into the future of the Anoka coop. As they stated in the member-letter they sent out dated May 1, 2009, "We reached the conclusion that we need to explore options for helping the Anoka co-op be independent again."
A group of people formed because Sarah Foss, who was currently on the Lakewinds board and on this Anoka committee, was told to look into finding Anoka people with an interest in the co-op's future. After a few initial meetings about the viability of this operation, Grass Roots Cooperative was formed, with the goal of working with Lakewinds toward the positive future of the Anoka co-op.
Secondly, aside from the questionable act of sending out a letter before our deadline has even passed, the implication that Grass Roots is not meeting goals is incorrect. We are currently establishing a solid base of members, gathering Class C stock, and solidly working toward the goals set by our lender. New members are joining Grass Roots daily, and substantial investments have been made!
Despite our dissatisfaction with this letter, we hopes it sheds some light on the situation, and we look forward to working with Lakewinds in the near future to keep moving forward toward a mutually beneficial goal.
